Turn-based (!) incremental games are easy to make in Twine – but time-based progression with a real time clock across the entire game, not just a single passage (=story node in Twine)? That's a whole different story – at least in the Harlowe format. Long story short: it worked.

I’m keen to explore engines like Godot, GDevelop, and Ren'py, but first, I am motivated to master Twine. With every game, I push its boundaries and explore new possibilities. I don't think I'm quite done with this engine yet. It has so much to offer.

Some might say Twine games aren’t "real" games. That’s fine. For me, they combine my writing with interactive storytelling, and that’s what matters. I get to hone my skills as a game writer and explore narrative direction. And I have loads of fun. That's what counts for me.

Twine gave me the chance to finally create games. Six years later, I have two complete games with over 100k plays, plus several prototypes.

My most ambitious project (in Twine) is in progress (I will be sharing the first dev notes soon).

But the dream lingered... In 2018, I discovered Twine – an open-source tool for creating interactive, nonlinear stories. No coding needed, but HTML, CSS, and JavaScript could enhance it. It was perfect for me.

I was good at writing, and after leaving the Christian fundamentalist cult I grew up in, I focused on that. Eventually, I published a couple of books, even landing a national bestseller in Germany.

None of these ideas went anywhere, but the dream was born: I wanted to create video games. My religious upbringing, however, had other plans for me, and I gave up before I had the chance to pursue it.

It all started when I was 10 or 11, "designing" my first video game... on graph paper with a biro. Inspired by Super Mario Land, I mapped out levels and dreamt of making my own jump and run. This is the character I came up with back then – the aim of the game was to deliver flowers to a girl.
