The new Superman is my favorite since 1978' Richard Donner movie. What resonated with me was that this Superman is someone who is trying hard as an outsider to fit in and be accepted. If you've ever moved to another country, another state, or another town--you'll know exactly what that feels like.

If you see this, quote with a robot who isn’t from Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr. Who, or Transformers.

Catastrophic delamination after a London-Istanbul flight. These #Aldo shoes are super comfy… but the construction leaves a lot to be desired.

My #UKGE haul. Prioritizing small games that will fit in a backpack, games that won’t be available in Indonesia.

And with Daryl Chow of Origames. Picked up Cube Melt, a quickie dice chucker, and 13 Animals, mahjong-like gameplay with cards.

I’m a total sucker for the artwork for the Saashi & Saashi games and I’m so thrilled to meet the illustrator and her game designer husband at the UKGE!

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs.

(“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

Just a reminder that while the idiotic tariff situation is in place, there are still plenty of old games that are just as fun to play.

Like Orleans! I will never refuse an offer to play Orleans!

Got my ass handed to me again. Still love this game even though I seem to always finish dead last

If you want something that’s a little more forgiving than Calico but a bit more crunchy than Cascadia, with a sprinkle of Kingdomino scoring mechanism, then maybe you should give Spectacular a try.

Seize the Bean is an example of a game that brings with it a kind of emergent narrative. Improvements to your shop makes it more appealing to a certain demographic. Customer cards from that demographic get added to your deck and represent loyal customers that show up again and again.

For Northwood is one of the games that I always keep in my bag. Compact box that packs in a lot of strategy plus a lot of replayability in the included campaign booklet. I originally bought it because I was curious how solo trick-taking would even work. It works indeed. Very well!

Learning session for the Skyrise #boardgame. Yup. I came in dead last.

First board game of the new year. Maki Master, a reimplementation of Wasabi (2008). Fun pattern-matching game that could be streamlined a little bit.

If you think it all sounds like accounting, well it sorta is. But there’s a certain satisfaction and elegance, when you manage to allocate just the right amount of power to enable your ship to pivot to face your foe’s weakest shield, with a complement of fully-charged photon torpedos. /4

The other half of course, is filling out the Energy Allocation form. You got 30 pts of energy. How much do you want to use for movement? For charging your torpedoes? For reinforcing the starboard flank shield that took a couple of Klingon disruptor hits last turn? This is the meat of the game. /4

I was thinking about today’s choices of area control games and combat games, when I started reminiscing about playing Star Fleet Battles when I was 16.

Anyone else remember this? The Star Trek war game with a 200-page rulebook…/1

From the Uffizi gallery. One of my favorite #boardgame is named after this Roman emperor

For Northwood is the #boardgame I carry with me almost everywhere. The gameplay is amazingly smooth and clean. It’s a solo trick-taking game, where you’re supposed to win just the correct number of tricks to achieve your goal. I love this game.

2nd go at Kanban EV doesn’t feel as overwhelming as last week. Just the right amount of whelming. 😆

Kanban EV first time playing this Lacerda #boardgame. Got a plenty of rules wrong, because there’s a LOT of fiddly rules to follow. I’m definitely down for another go though—let’s see if we can play it right next time.

Woodcraft hit the table again. Still not sure how to get a good score at this #boardgame, but it’s still a very enjoyable experience

It’s been awhile… Castles of Burgundy (the much-beloved classic edition) 😉
November 28, 2024 at 2:33 PM
Dunno why but I’m feeling nostalgic over the defunct website boiteajeux.net. Had a bunch of classic “ugly beige euros” that I loved to play. Burgundy, Trajan, Bruxelles, Agricola etc

Used to have boiteajeux, BGA, & Yucata open all day in separate tabs on my browser to ensure a “productive” workday😆
