Also, if you are into the medieval-renaissance printing press illustratory thing AND like a German flavor (as I do), you can access quality scans of the Nuremberg Chronicle courtesy of Cambridge. This color palette! Love!

I used to work at an after-school program where we taught games to kids, which informs some of who I design games for.

It’s a huge jump between games intended for parents to teach kids VS games intended for kids to teach kids. The different between them is communicated very poorly in the market.

I don’t know, but curious: isn’t this what Ravelry is built for? (Not a crocheter myself)

Candy Land is by Eleanor Abbott, too. That would add some serious numbers.

I wonder how total # of sales would look, if you give the design credit for Monopoly to Lizzie Maggie. At 100s of millions of copies, it might dwarf the entire hobby market.

Should you care? When things are this far off parity, it feels like a sign that something is weird. You're probably not getting the best games you could be getting if design were being undertaken and published by a broader spectrum of people. (🧵5/6)

Yep. I like Geoff Engelstein’s definition of game which is enormously broad, personally.

Fascinating insights. I have an interest in ancient/old games, and many of them strike me as “more activities than games”. A modern genre I believe has largely avoided competition is party games, where many are often played without tracking the points.
