I do random jobs for a living, I think the variety is interesting, so since this has been described as a "microblog" site, I thought it would be fun to post what I do :)
I'm a non-binary handy person working in the Seattle area.

Woo hoo! Knocked those first 3 off the list. I just so happened to have a tote in my van that was perfect for the cookie transportation job.

Then when I went home, I removed and replaced the 2 shorn bolts from my roommate's recliner

I've been outta town, helping my dad move. We packed 1 load of boxes and bits Sunday, I got to take my time doing perfect tetris :3 (pictured) then 3 more loads with mostly furniture yesterday, the last of which we unload today. Probably the biggest move I've ever done.

She had bought a brand of fairy lights she'd liked the effect of previously, but, as is typical of such products, the lights were widely spaced. Wrapping the length around the frame multiple times would have messed up chase/stream patterns, so I had the idea to coil the lights! It worked great!

My friend had this "stained glass" that she's been meaning to hang on her wall for years. I helped her pick out some hardware to mount it and figure out how to rig lights up around it for a theatrical effect :3

Today I spent just over 5 hours building a model Titanic! Odd jobs indeed!

Today, not for pay, I helped attempt to heal an over-ambitious apple tree

A branch that is thicker than the rest of the trunk going past it has split off and fallen to the ground. Numerous apples are bagged in mesh bags on the broken section with a few also visible on the remaining part of the tree. The branch that was fallen in the previous photo of this tree is back up and being supported by multiple means. In the foreground, a black metal hanger post decorated with curlicues and a bird silhouette is wedged against the branch, and a piece of wood is braced against the ground and lashed to the branch. Some shorter pieces of wood are tied to the lower part of the branch. A close up photo of the support efforts for the broken apple tree branch. The break is wrapped in plastic wrap and some short lengths of wood are tied above and below the break to serve as splints.

Behold! A before and after photo! (I so often forget)
Today's kitchen org job went well. I didn't take a pic of the silverware tray I sawed down so that it would actually fit in one of their drawers, but that was a highlight, haha.

The photos are paired vertically to be showing roughly the same spot before and after. . The left set is 3 long open shelves, which started with miscellaneous food boxes, oils, and appliances, and ended with the bottom shelf being pots and pans, the middle shelf being baking dishes, and the top being less used items. . The middle set is a cupboard with glass doors. It started with several clear bins crammed with various items and ended with neatly stacked dishes and food storage containers. . The right set is a 2x2 grid shelf over a bar cart with an espresso machine on it. It started out with coffee supplies in one corner, and mostly miscellaneous pots and pans in the other. It ended keeping the coffee quarter, then the other quarters became 1. A neat display of tea boxes, 2. Smoothie supplies and drink additives, 3. Hot drink and smoothie travel cups . The food items got moved into the plastic bins that had been in the glass fronted cupboard, then stored in the solid doored cupboard, which is where a lot of the dishes and teas had previously been.

Big struggle patching around a washer hose box today. I forgot to get an after photo, but it was far from smooth, despite trying to notch out the backs of my patch pieces for the parts of the box that stick out way too much.

A patch of drywall on the left edge has been installed and taped, a new strip is sitting across the top, but it's not flush with the wall around it. There's a couple of zip ties positioned to strap the top strip of drywall down. (I tried to screw through the drywall, metal strap, and a scrap of wood to mount the patch, the zip ties held it all together so that the screws didn't just push the wall away from the wood) A screenshot of a reddit post featuring a picture of the same washer hose box. If I put the drywall over the bracket, it causes the drywall to bulge out badly." A before photo of the hole around my client's washer box. The wall was cut away to each side to reach the studs, with an extra notch taken out for a metal hanger strap to be mounted. There is also gap showing above and below the box, beyond what is covered by the faceplate.

Recap of the problems this bed was designed to solve:
- I have plants in my windows, so don't want to put curtains on windows, but it's too bright in the morning
- a bed that's big enough for company takes up too much of my room to be worth it for the few times I want to have someone over

Finally added an actual rod to the front side of my bed, so I can hang actual curtains instead of clipping a duvet cover across that side.
I used structural steel pipe hardware to install it because I wanted to reinforce this silly custom bed I made for myself

There's a sheer tan one with a white leafy pattern on it layered on top of a white one, which is layered on top of a pale green one. Dark blue curtains with wooden button frame on either side of the layered stack. (The white one and some tan ones that are hanging at the foot of the bed claimed to be blackout curtains, but they were unsatisfactory, so I layered them with some other random curtains I got at a thrift store) Closer up photo of one end of the new rod, showing the structural steel piping end bracket that's installed there. Along the right side of the photo is the white tall bedpost, which has a normal, telescoping curtain rod installed across the foot of the bed. Layered tan and green curtains hang from that one. A dark blue curtain with a wood button is visible pulled back from the corner of the new rod that is being shown off here.

The short job yesterday was installing aftermarket brackets to fix a design flaw on the sun visors in Jeep Gladiators. Apparently those visors swivel on a little plastic lip that commonly snaps off. Fortunately there's a bigger plastic lip that you can slot another bracket over 😅

One of the joys of my Odd Jobbing is the variety, I like being able to do a bit of everything
A comic by Nathan Pyle in his Strange World series. It is 4 frames and features two blue space alien people in a pink world. Frame 1: one being is on a ladder, holding a drill, in front of a shelf mounted to the wall beside them, saying "I have done a mediocre job". The top of a tool box is visible by the bottom of the ladder. The other being is on the floor, looking up at the handy-being, a hand conversationally out towards them saying "I have observed worse." . Frame 2: handy-being has climbed down from the ladder and is putting the drill in the tool box, gesticulating with their other hand, they say, "Thank you- as the popular sentence states..." . Frame 3: handy being continues, bringing a hand to their chest "I am somewhat competent at many tasks but not very competent at any task" Nathan Pyle's Strange World comics often humorously rephrase common phrases in overly wordy ways, this one is a play on "Jack of all trades, master of none" the handy-being's toolbox and ladder are no longer present in this frame or the next. .
