I do random jobs for a living, I think the variety is interesting, so since this has been described as a "microblog" site, I thought it would be fun to post what I do :)
I'm a non-binary handy person working in the Seattle area.
Busy week ahead, on the docket:
- general handyman for return client
- gift wrapping
- cookie delivery
- full day of unpacking/organizing
- half day doing more handy work for today's first client

Oh gosh, I hadn't posted here for 2 months! I looked back for other interesting jobs I did during that time, here's one: this company, RR Movers www.rrmoveco.com hired me as an additional unpacking helper. They seem like a pretty cool company. They help elders pack and move seamlessly

I've been outta town, helping my dad move. We packed 1 load of boxes and bits Sunday, I got to take my time doing perfect tetris :3 (pictured) then 3 more loads with mostly furniture yesterday, the last of which we unload today. Probably the biggest move I've ever done.

My friend's car was giving error code about the Vehicle Speed Sensor, so I've been struggling along w/ her about that. The dang thing was super difficult to get out, and then when installing the new one, we broke the bolt, so guess who's gunna have a bolt extractor kit soon xP

Haven't been working a ton lately. Mostly just helping a return client move her sister into a unit in the same building as the client (the sister had already been crashing with the client, waiting for a unit to open up, so it was a smooth same-building move)
Lately been busy w/ friends and fam

Spent 6 hrs getting someone's garage all organized... But got sloppy at the end and accidentally cut my hand while breaking down boxes 🤦
Fortunately it was a straight cut and finally stopped bleeding. This is why I usually try to limit organization to 4 hrs at a time. Good rule reminder.

My friend had this "stained glass" that she's been meaning to hang on her wall for years. I helped her pick out some hardware to mount it and figure out how to rig lights up around it for a theatrical effect :3

Organization jobs do vary a bit. Today's was mostly just pulling things out of closets and storage and bringing them to the client so they could vote "keep" or "donate", then packing the keep stuff back away.

Today I spent just over 5 hours building a model Titanic! Odd jobs indeed!

Been doing a fair number of closet org jobs, helping people figure out what arrangement makes sense and then actually make progress towards setting it up

I was hired to sell a bunch of things that a client had set aside to resell. That's been an endeavor. I probably won't do this on this scale (5 medium moving boxes) again, but hey, it has me established as a seller on Mercari and eBay now.

Today, not for pay, I helped attempt to heal an over-ambitious apple tree

Another day, another kitchen re-org. Let's see what I organize tomorrow

Today's other jobs were:
- installing a license plate on a front bumper that previously hadn't had one and
- replacing an overly complex fridge handle attachment

I actually got some pics of the fridge job that might be interesting. May upload them later for my adoring public ^^;

Behold! A before and after photo! (I so often forget)
Today's kitchen org job went well. I didn't take a pic of the silverware tray I sawed down so that it would actually fit in one of their drawers, but that was a highlight, haha.

Big struggle patching around a washer hose box today. I forgot to get an after photo, but it was far from smooth, despite trying to notch out the backs of my patch pieces for the parts of the box that stick out way too much.

Found a reddit post validating my struggle:

adventures of the day:
- patch drywall around some boxes put in the wall behind a washer/dryer
- see what's up with a client's fancy fridge handle that keeps ripping off

got in a minor car accident in February, between concussion headaches and ouchie back (plus exhaustion after that long job) I only worked with return clients for all of March. Then my old phone broke, and things have been busy, so I forgot about bluesky for a while

In the meantime, I did have someone hire me a couple times to cook a bunch of food for them, it's always a nice shift to do a cooking job.
And then one of my randomly recurring clients had me over to do various little things to prepare their house for navigation after an impending surgery.

I've been helping a client organize and pack for a move for the past 5 weeks, so that's been keeping me pretty busy. Sorting through inherited belongings of late friends and preparing to combine household with a partner takes a lot of thinking and moving.

Finally added an actual rod to the front side of my bed, so I can hang actual curtains instead of clipping a duvet cover across that side.
I used structural steel pipe hardware to install it because I wanted to reinforce this silly custom bed I made for myself

My final task yesterday was helping someone who was dealing with long term disabilizing effects of covid move things around their house, which used to be a simple task for them but now takes them forever without help. :/ The long term impacts of this virus are going to be rough.

The short job yesterday was installing aftermarket brackets to fix a design flaw on the sun visors in Jeep Gladiators. Apparently those visors swivel on a little plastic lip that commonly snaps off. Fortunately there's a bigger plastic lip that you can slot another bracket over 😅

Yesterday I was running behind due to traffic and also lingering to spend a little time with my niece (my friend's kid) but then my 2nd job only took 15 minutes so I made up all the time I'd lost and made it to my 3rd job on schedule

Yesterday I switched out my friend's mailbox for a locking one, and his friendly neighbor whose house the mailbox was in front of (because in the Seattle area, mailboxes are all clustered in groups for some reason) thought it was sweet of me to help out and brought me a cookie and sumo orange
