I had a little steak, with kale and pepper sauce. Ha’penny jumped on the table and demanded cuddles. He then licked where the steak had been, and after reflection, quite a lot of the pepper sauce.

Now the sun’s out I tried to catch all the strands of gossamer streaming off the cherry. You can only see a few but there are dozens of little spiders trying for lift-off, looking for new territories for the winter.

The vet says 6kg is fine so long as he doesn’t put on any more.
A friend’s cat was over 10kg, big but not gross. The vet suggested feeding him on lean turkey, but she insisted on cooking it in butter…

Living in France, I don’t bother with all this Halloween crap.
But there are natural hazards that can kill birds. This is ?yellow foxtail. It’s covered with little hooks. There’s a lot in my garden, even though I try to control it. A couple of years ago a bunch caught a finch which died there.

I’ve been plotting this for a few days, now the kale is coming along nicely. The whole thing is a bit of a jumble, but it’s quite fun.

A lovely sunny morning in sud-Vendée. Yesterday I went birding and was rewarded with lots of lovely things including a black-shouldered kite. In the afternoon, cleared a lot of garden stuff (lots of brambles), so when the next load of washing is out, off to the tip!

Once I get into full winter bird-feeding mode, Ha’penny (here in summer snooze mode), will regularly eat sunflower hearts.
