I did that for 9 mon with my late GSD. She wasn't in pain & acted happier than she was before she lost all feeling. I busted my ass taking her out in a harness to hold her up, used a wheelchair, never had sores, etc. Overall damaged my health to do it. Would I make the same choices? Prob not?

If you haven't done so already, check it for splinters or burrs. look for swelling, busted claws. If you can touch & move all of the parts of his paw and leg without flinching or growling or other pain signs, it may just be a sprain for which they're just going to say rest and doggie nsaids anyway.
