Apropos of the current weather, William Kurelek was a Ukrainian-Canadian painter, born on the prairie, who settled in the Toronto neigbourhood where I grew up. I've long been a fan of this pair of paintings of the view from his porch because it reminds me of my childhood winters 6 streets over.

That reminds me, this crazy weather has me so confused I forgot to take my mandatory streetcar-in-the-snow photo while I was out today. I know other cities also have streecars and snow but to me it's the most Toronto thing ever.
