Judith Butler is absolutely right that “woke” is a right wing slur. It is a perversion & co-optation of Black vernacular, the encouragement to “stay woke!” as in, “stay aware!” When conservatives and their liberal amplifiers attack “woke” what they’re doing is attacking awareness. Really. That’s it.
