Total Escalante.
Can I just say, that part isn’t what I love about his story. He was a phenomenal man. Most of us would not do that.

He went on to serve for the Union became a member of Congress. Thinking about Robert Smalls always makes me emotional because look what he did against the seemingly insurmountable.

Criminal has an amazing episode featuring his great great grandson. thisiscriminal.com/episode-142-...

The white officers would disembark at the harbor and go ashore. They weren’t supposed to but custom.

When Smalls took over that night, he was wearing the captain’s hat and he knew all the signals as they passed forts and checkpoints. Once they cleared, they put up a white flag for the Union.

The tour guide knew a member of his family, and this had been told down the line. Would love to verify this. I love the legend and life of Robert Smalls.

I was on a tour in Beaufort & heard that after he bought the house that he was once enslaved in, the wife of his enslaver showed up disheveled & with possible dementia? She had walked from Charleston back to Beaufort. He let her live with him and his family until she died, helping to care for her.

Have your doctor prescribe you Tessalon perles. They are magical in stopping coughs. I just took two and am silent.
