Hi! My name is Fenix, I talk about urbanism and transportation in my home country of Brazil, to try bring awarness of what's going on around here. Hope you like what you see!

He/Him - Speak 🇧🇷🇺🇸🇪🇸 - Native of Jundiaí, SP - Metalhead
The problem is the rolling stock, they all look horrible
If they were, idk, the Vossloh Tramlink V4, it'd be faster just by it's coolness
Like what the heck is this

The curitiba BRT manages to have a higher capacity and be faster than most light rail systems in the U.S and Canada.
Skill issue or poor planning?

Line 2 of Santos light rail system is finally here!
I'm happy to announce that the new paint scheme is horrible, trolleybus service should return soon and now it finally reaches the city center

A thing that has forever bothered me in regional rail systems in Anglo America, is their seating layout.
Here's a comparison between LIRR and CPTM. When you see a train with just seats, it's obviously more comfortable, but would you take it in rush hour?
Like, where do you stand?

Fun fact:
The extension of CPTM line 7 between Francisco Morato and Jundiaí is operated basically as a courtesy, since every station beyond FM is part of a different metro area.
However, the catenary is so ancient that no more than 2 trains can run on this section

For a community centered so much in the US, y'all not talking enough about the fact Miami just opened the first actual BRT system the US and Canada have ever seen.
Off board payment, enter through left doors, signal priority (apparently) and grade crossings on intersections

My new found hobby is to search for early buses. We had just found out that they were good, and needed them to be big, but also as weird as possible
We truly knew nothing about building buses as a society

These are the trains that took over service in 2018, just regular Bom Sinal's Mobile 3, soon to be joined by Marcopolo Rail units (yeah, THAT Marcopolo)

Just as a reminder
RFFSA bought 12 DMUs from Ganz-Mávag in 1973 to be put into service in luxury "high-speed" passenger lines. They were retired in 1987.
BUT, Teresina, bought them in 1991 after a deal went through with Argentinian Materfer. They were refurbished 3 times and retired in 2018

It's honestly an insult for me the fact that my city used to have one of the coolest bus fleets in the country, and now, it's probably the 2nd most depressing

It should've been this, but hey, we can always count on the Port Authority to discontinue a service loved by literally everyone (I refuse to use their new name)
This is the Drake Shuttle btw, I think it was the last line in the system to use PCC streetcars

Hold your horses
I'll be talking about trolleybus very soon, you can always count me on doing so

They sure are getting rarer by the day!

For now all we have to do is accept the fact that the 710 service won't come back soon, Tarcísio loves privatization, and the majority of people who vote for him don't take public transport ever. And he'll just continue privatizing everything untill we're in the same situation RIo de Janeiro is now.

- Does the future hold something good?
Most likely, no, Brazil is very famous for starting giant transportation projects and never finishing them (ehem, Rio de Janeiro's metro). Probably the only savior on this is that we're getting a hold of CRRC, so maybe there's a future. +

People were interviewed and not a single person was happy about the change. Some said it was a mess, a regression and even inhumane.
The service operated just fine, helping people to get were they needed with a one seat ride, but now, they have to change trains in a station unfit for it +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
To TRY "remedy" the situation, they arranged it in such a way that, trains on line 7 would have a cross-platform transfer with line 10, and TRIED their best to make both trains arrive at the same time, if not, at maximum 5 minutes
This proved to change nothing, as the station got extremely crowded +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
- Why was it so chaotic?
As well as ending the 710 service, the terminus of line 7 was also changed. In the past, it terminated at Luz, now it does it one station earlier, at Barra Funda, because it's the station where the future train to Campinas will start, so they made it a "mega-hub" +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
This means that the 710 service couldn't continue as the companies who operated them would be different, one being private and the other, state-owned (not for long tho).
Because of that, people were warned about the end of the service months in advance, all of this to culminate in today's chaos +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
However, CPTM line 7 covers almost half of the alignment up untill Jundiaí, from there on it's freight territory. Because of that, our delightfull governor decided that line 7 should be privatezed too.
As such, TIC Trens will take over control of line 7 around november this year +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Tarcísio de Freitas, elected governor of the state in 2022, has come a long way to make the train happen. The company that will operate has already been chosen (a joint venture of the Grupo Comporte and CRRC) and construction is set to start in 2026 with the completion estimated to happen in 2031 +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
Since then, there hasn't been a single passenger train connecting these two cities that aren't even 2 hours away from one another.
For that reason, many politicians have tried to re-introduce the train, and we're currently on the one who seems like will work. +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
- Why was the 710 service discontinued?
Let's go back in time for a bit. Up untill around 1998, there were still regular trains between São Paulo and Campinas, the largest cities in the state (forget Guarulhos).
This however changed when FEPASA was privatazed and went "bankrupt" +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
The service was more oriented towards workers, as it now connected some of the largest suburbs in the region with the largest employment areas.
It's estimated that roughly 165 thousand people were benefited by this service, as well as cutting 8 minutes of travel time +
August 29, 2025 at 12:13 AM
- What was the 710 service?
As it name might suggest, it was a joint operation of lines 7 and 10, connecting Jundiaí and Rio Grande da Serra directly, a trip that'd take you 3 trains to make.
Prior to the service starting in May of 2021, line 7 ended in Luz while line 10 in Brás stations +
