Also, my parents and I started doing a weekly “happy hour” dinner on zoom which has continued as a weekly dinner every Thursday.

I don’t miss the first, I sort of miss the second and third. My immediate family is from CA but a lot of the missionaries in our community overseas were from the Midwest so it’s always fun to confuse people, talking about jello salads and hotdish.

We don’t do jello salad but we had a lot of missionary potlucks growing up. I remember carrot jello salad (orange jello, shredded carrots & raisins), lime jello w/cottage cheese, and fruit cocktail salad (don’t remember the jello flavor but do remember it was extra special if you got a maraschino).

I grew up seeing Mt Fuji regularly and it was only right that I settle in another city with a mountain looming over it.

I have extra lights that I put up for Halloween (orange, purple, green); those are still up. Then extra white lights that go up for Christmas that stay up through at least early January. But I have base lights that stay up year round on the fence and around our front door.
