Maybe it's all the Ryu marks who want to keep believing in the illusion that they're good at stuff while sitting there with every tool they could ask for and then some, laid out for them? Maybe.

I feel like sf6 specifically really has that effect and I'm not sure why. It's not uncommon among fighting games, but something about this one really sets people going.

They added scaling to a bunch of crouching medium kicks that weren't cancelable but could combo out of a drive rush.
It was part of a bunch of panic changes they made to offset lows being stronger, because in the same patch they made it harder to perfect parry lows.

I have such a visceral reaction to 3.5, too.
I've shared a table with too many hardcore 3.5 munchkins to have a fond recollection of the game. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that OSR games where your build was "3d6 across, buy a sword, and get out there" was my jam for a while.
