We are the New York state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), fighting for the rights of all New Yorkers.
When you reach the councilmembers’ office, you can say:

“I’m calling to ask you to pass a critical bill that will ensure New Yorkers can safely engage in peaceful protest to make their voices heard. My safety and right to protest is under direct threat by the SRG. New Yorkers need the CURB Act."

The CURB Act can’t be voted on until City Council leadership calls for a hearing - and that’s where you come in.
Call these numbers to urge for a hearing ASAP:

Councilman Yusef Salaam, Chair of Public Safety:
☎️ 212-678-4505

Councilwoman Adrienne Adams, Speaker of the City Council:
☎️ 212-482-6731

That’s where the CURB Act comes in.

The Communities United to Reject Brutality (CURB) Act will protect NYers by removing the SRG from protests & banning their most abusive tactics to ensure that no unit like the SRG can exist in NYC. It'll also create oversight over the NYPD’s response to protests.

With an estimated budget of $133 Million, and a long history of misconduct, brutality, and racial bias, we have joined New Yorkers in their call to disband the SRG.

While disbandment is vital, we also must ensure that the aggressive tactics it's known for are not redeployed by other NYPD units.

The NYPD's Strategic Response Group, or the SRG, was created in 2015. Despite assurances from the NYPD that the unit would be dedicated to counterterror work and that it would not be deployed at protest, the SRG has threatened, brutalized, and arrested protesters over and over again.
