New paper out today in Ecology Letters! In this synthesis we dive into the equilibrium assumption in ecology - why it's everywhere in ecological theory, the evidence for it in nature, when meeting the assumption is important, how to achieve it in empirical research, and more! tinyurl.com/yh6kyysm

Study area shape matters when tracking species range shifts & we may underestimate longitudinal range shifts to the benefit of latitudinal range shifts, potentially undermining drivers other than T°C 🌡

Global bias towards recording latitudinal range shifts - Nature Climate Change
The authors consider studies reporting species range shifts and demonstrate a geometric bias in sampling along latitudinal, rather than longitudinal, gradients. This bias may favour the corroboration ...

Needing to model impacts on seabird populations in Northwest Europe?

Not sure where to find useful values for demographic variables?

Look no further! In this new paper, we provide model-derived values for age-specific survival of 25 species.

Demography of marine birds in the Northeast Atlantic: Informed parameter values for population modelling
We developed matrix population models for 54 regional populations of 25 marine bird species in the north-east Atlantic, based on 30 years of monitoring data. In Step 1, we parameterised the models wi...

🌍 In the 1850s, humans and their livestock weighed about as much as all wild mammals 🐋🐘 combined.
Today, they outweigh them nearly 20 to 1.
A quiet biomass revolution. Life reshaped to serve one species.

So we reviewed 3000 conference abstracts to see which species get the spotlight. Huge work from @ingridpollet.bsky.social with me and @seabirdsentinel.bsky.social
