LinkedIn is honestly the worst. The only thing I get from LinkedIn is a never ending flood of AI-written smug anecdotes. Honestly don't know why I still have an account.

Neither - I would put the supervisor as the corresponding author (with their permission) and they can forward you emails.

A link would be great!

IMO a solution is clearly explaining (1) the difference between acceptable (e.g. grammar) and inappropriate (generating original text) LLM use, and (2) *why* the latter is inappropriate - rather than just giving up. I also think there has to be a shift away from (undergrad) open assignments, sadly.

I'm glad we're in agreement, but then I'm not sure why you're proposing replacing writing assignments for students?
November 1, 2025 at 10:37 AM
"Students" should probably be replaced with "scientists". We're not immune to this either.

Students must be able to write themselves. AI being able to write "good" essays is missing the point that writing is a core part of the thinking process. Assessing text something else has written is an entirely different skillset from producing original and well-structured ideas yourself.

I was there a few months ago! I loved this little garden - it was very unexpected but a lovely little feature along this section. Also liked the little hut at the pass getting tourists to doodle the flag of where they're coming from.

You're an academic, and you're knowingly putting misinformation on social media. I completely agree with you that the metric is damaging and stupid. That doesn't excuse sharing information you know is incorrect.

The first line of your post, which has gained considerable attention, reads "Google Scholar has introduced a 'Sh-index' metric that scores papers higher if you are first or last author". This is false. Nobody will read a correction buried in the replies, which you know. Not impressive.
October 26, 2025 at 3:23 PM
Shouldn't you remove your original post then, given that it's false?
October 26, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Google Scholar has *not* introduced a 'Sh-index'. This is misinformation. It's an unofficial extension and I don't understand why people are giving this any attention.

This is so cool. I'd have never thought there'd be a (quite significant?!) relationship between acoustics and carbonate chemistry!
