to expand on the academic citation point: the fact that posts are expected to be deleted if you move instances, and the nature of the smaller instances being better to use means that mastodon posts are even less static than blog posts.

mastodon was programmed for the small internet. it isnt friendly to marketting, advertising, or the ability to cite posts academically. it's just meant for socialization. this should be a major benefit, but it means that nobody of any importance is going to move there.

i know technically you can do this on mastodon by (following the example) making an account on the sagaftra.org mastodon instance then having it redirect to the account on the instance you actually want to use. but i dont want a redirect, i want an alias.

i really desperately want signal to support rcs. they can even just do the imessage thing of coloring messages based on whether or not theyre from signal app users. it would mean that signal would be the only messaging app anyone would need.
