This is of course Julianne Moore in the 2006 dystopian thriller Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuarón.

Another Christmas movie!

Most Appropriate Holiday Movies

To Have and Have Not: Classic Hollywood romance with clear moral lines, heroism against fascism, and the birth of the Bogart-Bacall relationship (a kind of hopeful union). Traditional values of courage and standing up for what's right […]

Would I do it differently? Yes! Would my version be better? No! haha

@ryan Ishiguro is excellent. I also enjoyed Murakami, but stopped with 1Q84 (his peak?) Was very disappointed with his later work, but I read everything up to that point. Everything.

I’d probably watch that Was Anderson movie though

Anyway, if your book club wants something to read, there’s deeper, more fulfilling works on every dimension 😆

The final, obvious comparison is The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. If you want a “cozy” SF novel, this is the one. A found family, radical acceptance and diversity, working together, it was radical at the time and I think we should go back to it again.

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie explores the notion of identity and fragmentation and spent more than two minutes thinking about how gendered language language shapes perception. Definite scenes of horror, but also cozy with lots of chats over tea. Translation State was also excellent, I enjoyed […]

Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro explores Artificial consciousness and humanity and many deeper themes, which is unfair comparison, since Ishiguro did win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017. Never Let Me Go is another devastating work of science fiction, but both can be read as mainstream […]

Am I petty? Yes!

Tempted to add a “are you kidding me” where I’m following someone with fewer followers than me who doesn’t follow back.

Like, remain obscure dude haha

Done. Unfollowed: 115, Skipped: 41

I can guess who muted just by when they stop liking 😢

I personally would love a notification if someone unfollows me, like “Mary unfollowed when you posted fifteen times about the Solstice” so I can guess why haha
December 21, 2025 at 12:13 AM
That was easy. I’ve got a script that will iterate over “ghosts” who haven’t posted in the past 30 days, ignoring “nice” who follow back, as well as just “non-followers” so I can decide if I want to continue following them or not.
