These features often matter more to visually impaired users, but they are frequently overlooked by design teams. I'm advocating for less focus on checking a color contrast box and more focus on accessibility as user choice and adaptability.

Making everything meet WCAG AAA contrast can actually reduce information hierarchy and hurt legibility for everyone. Accessibility today is about adaptability. Most modern platforms offer UI options for increased contrast, larger text, bolder fonts, reduced motion, and transparency settings.

WCAG AAA color contrast was established for the web, during a time when many monitors were poorly calibrated or displayed contrast inaccurately. Display technology has improved a lot over the past decade, and color is now rendered much more accurately.

..that's an outdated and overly simplistic way of thinking about accessibility, even when talking just about visual accessibility and color contrast. There's more nuance, and a need for contextual application.
