The new on-device Foundation Models are a big deal. I'm looking forward to using them in future apps and seeing what new models become available. Everything runs locally. No account creation, subscriptions, networking, or data privacy shenanigans.

It seems like iOS 26 makes use of HDR to make whites brighter than standard white in select moments like touch-down states and certain text labels.

This effect already exists in iOS 18’s App Store app, where some white text (e.g. white text on a yellow background) uses HDR to improve contrast.

I hope macOS 26 moves away from the current padded sidebar style and returns to the previous full-bleed design. The first iteration of Figma UI 3 had a similar issue. It reduced usable space, and the canvas felt obscured because it extended beneath the sidebar surface.

I often see designers criticize the accessibility of a UI by first looking at color contrast and rejecting anything that doesn't meet WCAG AAA color contrast. I get it: It's measurable, easy to test, and widely known. However... (1/5)

Apple’s new design language uses their silicon and Metal framework to create an interface that can’t easily be copied by Google or Samsung. Competitors have to support a wider range of hardware, often with lower specs. This is the right way for Apple to stand out.

I didn't pre-order a Switch 2 or get one at launch. What are the best ways to get hold of one now? Without going via the resell market.

There has to be a better way to create App Store marketing screenshots across multiple languages and devices. I’ve been doing it like this in in Figma. Open to any better tools or workflows!

Loving the new Airbnb icons when they’re used as illustrations or as part of the main content. Not so much when they’re part of the navigation UI. Still, seeing them makes me want to get back into learning 3D modeling.

I also believe that text labels are critical for usability. Beyond a small set of universally understood icons, I’d always recommend adding a text label. Too many apps rely solely on icons to convey the meaning or function of a button.

I’m a firm believer in text labels. Interfaces are over-stuffed with icons. The more icons we have to scan over, the more brain power we put

Contemplating getting an Adobe subscription, mainly for After Effects and Lightroom. Pixelmator has already replaced Photoshop for most tasks, but I still miss Photoshop. What other apps could replace Lightroom and After Effects? Keen to try alternatives before going back to Adobe.
