The best Christian political party there ever was has to be, hands down, the Republican party. Yep. All those family values and upstanding morals.

Without Jesus' empathy, I find myself asking, would I even want to be part of his following?

Would I want to follow a being who doesn't know what it's like to be human? To have similar struggles to my own?

How would I share my life with others without empathy of my own?

...Okay, that's only two cultural norms, but they had large negative implications.

Empathy meant Jesus didn't care what bystanders thought. He wanted to help the woman see the Gospel. It didn't matter to him if she was a sex worker (if she was). Her sins didn't matter. His being there did.

What else could it be except empathy that brought Jesus to ask the woman at the well, seen in John chapter 4, for some water! Jesus willingly went against many cultural norms for her: speaking to an unmarried woman, asking a Samarian for water.

We deny Jesus' humanity by stating he didn't empathize with the people around him.

Couldn't it have been empathy that caused Jesus to weep when his friend Lazarus died?

Couldn't it have been empathy that caused Jesus to wash Judas' feet, knowing what Judas had done and would do that night?
