I think your complaint is more with social media and representation. He himself certainly lost any ability to determine what his legacy ultimately would be. I think there are better ways to make your point than saying actually he wasn’t such a great guy.

I think what you described is horrible but it’s not equivalent to an expression of anti-Black racism in the US which has its own long history both inside and outside the labor movement and deep impacts on material outcomes. It’s important that the expectation not be for the recipient to be nice.
