But let's not forget that all these tariff announcments, retraction and re-announcements introduce a lot of uncertainty. Looking at the NAFTA renegotiation, I found that uncertainty of losing preferential tariffs for decreased US imports from Canada and Mexico. And they did not recover with USMCA

What if tariffs are lifted? I find similar responses for tariff increases and decreases. In about 15 months we are back to square one

The response of imports to these special tariffs was quite quick. In about 15 months we see the full response. Given a tariff increase by 25%, we can expect imports to drop by -26% in the first month and arrive to -53% after one year or so
