Unexpectedly found ourselves in Portland with nothing to do tonight, so why not see some Australian punk new and old? Wollongong duo chimers and The Saints ‘73-‘78 w/orig members Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay, plus Mick Harvey and Mark Arm (vox) among others. A fantastic double bill.

Also, someone complimented my style and said I reminded them of Poison Ivy of The Cramps. I’ll take it!

Fascinating session today with former Washington Post editorial cartoonist @anntelnaes.bsky.social in conversation w/ @bretthamil.bsky.social, covering her background in animation thru to her time at the Post and how she came to leave the paper.

Making the scene at Short Run Comix Festival. Tons of folks as usual, but much easier to move around in the spacious and airy new venue in Georgetown.

Also worth mentioning that every part of this show, including the cover art, is assembled by myself. (No AI here... ever!!) Images from old catalogs, magazines, record sleeves are colored, textured and reimagined for each week's show. Here's one example:

Closing out the month with a clutch of October radio shows uploaded in the past week. Tons of great tunes from the indie underground that need more ears on 'em: Hedge Burners, Possible Humans, Lande Hekt, ONYON... (I could go on...) www.mixcloud.com/nstop/

My right ear started acting up partway thru Phantom Tollbooth’s hi-volume set, so I decided to quit while I was ahead. Thx DromFest, hope to see ya next year! (6/6)

I was skeptical about a Dambuilders gig that was billed as basically Dave Derby and friends. But when yr friends include Brendan Canty (Fugazi) and Sean Eden (Luna)… it’s gonna sound great, and it did. Surprise guest: original member Eric Masunaga! (5/6)

While I’d very much enjoyed Thalia Zedek’s solo set I caught a month prior in Seattle, the (almost) full band version was mind-blowingly good. Go see them if you can! (4/6)
