Disaster and hazard historian, but I like it all. Climate, hazards, society, and infrastructure. Natural & human made.
Always up for talking about cats, books, office supplies, reality tv, true crime, and pop culture.
New England Girl always! 💕
It is sunny. And very very windy. Which means Beau is chasing sunbeams.

Had to lecture Beau that we can’t hiss at children. We haven’t handed out candy for a while because Cooper couldn’t be trusted not to get out but this year we are and Beau is so unamused.

We do what we do to protect lives, communities, and infrastructure. Scientists, meteorologists, social scientists, historians, emergency managers. We all have the same mission - to save. But sometimes all we can do is watch and pray, and be ready to help when it’s done.

When mom is a disaster and hazards historian, you watch a lot of hurricane coverage.

The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association by Caitlin Rozakis was a great October read. #BookSky 📚💙

There’s always time for some professional development. This time with Mita Mallick’s The Devil Emails at Midnight: What Good Leaders Can Learn From Bad Bosses. #BookSky 📚💙

The Influencers by Anna-Marie McLemore was an interesting story but there was just way too much going on. #BookSky 📚💙

Didn’t know what I was getting into but really enjoyed A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid and was surprised to see it relate to my research. #BookSky 📚💙

This month’s TMCBC fiction pick is The Possession of Alba Diaz by Isabel Canas. Great choice for October. #BookSky 📚💙

1) who let this plane take off in the freaking nor’easter?
2) being very familiar with that area, that’s terrifying to think about it coming down on the highway
3) thinking of everyone impacted.

I’ve been waiting for The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningham for months. I love a good book set on a school campus. And The Academy lived up to it all. I so hope this becomes a series. I need more from Tiffin!! #BookSky 📚💙

Reading The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningham and the school has this thing called the Harkness Society.

Ah yes. Cooper was my vet problem child. He hated being held or restrained but just wanted to always be in the middle of everything. Friendliest cat ever until you tried to do something not in his plan. I found out this week, the vet uses stories about him when trouble cats come in.

Beau watching videos of cats catching mice and taking notes because he received a F in this class and now we have mice.

Cooper would have never stood for this.

October is a good time for a horror short stories collection and Man, F*ck This House (And Other Disasters) by Brian Asman was great. #BookSky 📚💙

Breaking up reading books I already own with some new releases, including The Librarians by Sherry Thomas. #BookSky 📚💙

Had such high hopes for this book but it just didn’t hit. Trying to include too much - 3 different storylines that needed far more organization and editing. Does not properly address the subtitle of the book. Should’ve focused on the memoir or the history, both is unsuccessful. #BookSky 📚💙

Next up in the reading list was Seven for a Secret by Mary E. Roach. #BookSky 📚💙
