None of us remembered this album last night, I actually thought it came out in 1969, but no, definitely 1970. You could say that 1971's On The Shore is a better album, but as debut albums go, this is outstanding.

21. Françoise Hardy - Ma Juenesse Fout Le Camp... (1967)
I bought several Françoise albums this year, but I seem to have played this one the most. Released in 1967, it still carries the sound of the mid-60s but the songs are so good. Of course, it contains the breathtaking Voila.

My (very) long list. Convinced I've missed some greats and need clarification as to whether or not the first T.Rex album is eligible. Picking 5 from these 68 LPs is just impossible, but I'll enjoy listening to as many as I can.

22. Roberta Flack - First Take (1969)
This album took me completely by surprise. I knew First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, but wasn't expecting such an eclectic mix of styles on a debut album. The opening track, Compared To What is more Nina Simone than Stax or Motown. An essential LP.

23. The Impressions - This Is My Country (1968)
Man alive, this is so good. Ridiculously short, but full of sweet tunes. It's the lyrics that mark it out. The title track has lyrics of rage, yet is as soft as snow. Fool For You is the track that really shows where Curtis was heading.

PS I liked Steve Wright, I just wouldn't want to look like him.

24. Sister Nancy - One Two (1982)
One of very few women that were part of the nascent dancehall reggae scene, Sister Nancy is a legend. Featuring Sly & Robbie with Ansel Collins, this is full of sweet grooves with Nancy's funny & clever lyrics. You all know Bam Bam but all tracks great.

25. Necronomicon - Tips Zum Selbstmord (1972)
A German album released in 1972, the title translates to 'How To Commit Suicide'. Recorded on a two-track recorder, this an absolutely brutal slab of psych/proto-metal. Ambitious but completely mental. For fans of Hawkwind, Dark & Groundhogs.

26. Kathy McCord - Kathy McCord (1970)
Recorded while she was still in her teens, this is an amazing album. Folky but fried in places. Her voice is absolutely divine & the songs are very good indeed. She even manages to pull off a cover of She's Leaving Home sung in the first person.

A 1972 German prog-folk album that just floats along beautifully. Some primitive synth action & a woman with a great voice top things off nicely.
