#4Art25 day 8, Gemstone spotlight.

I haven't done any settings with faceted gemstones (too fiddly), but garnet is commonly used as a gemstone and the beads in this statement ring are garnets.

2008, when I dabbled a bit in silversmithing.

I was going to use this for #4Art25 day 3, April Showers, but changed my mind and used another one.

Now it fits both #BlueSkyMonday and #AlphabetChallenge #WeekOforOodles instead.

Made in 2007. These "caterpillar" bracelets were so popular back then. Basic description of the technique in ALT text.
A bracelet with fringes made of glass seed beads in frosted white and transparent blue. First, you string a number of slightly larger beads (like size 8/0 or 6/0 if you use seed beads) on flex wire, a few inches longer than your desired bracelet length. Fasten a clasp or jump ring in one end using a crimp bead, but leave the other end loose. Then sew the fringes with size 11/0 (or smaller) seed beads between each of the larger beads, using Fireline or similar thread. Sew as many fringes as you like or can fit. For a denser look, you can make the individual fringes branched with the coraling technique. You can adjust the length of the bracelet as you go by adding or removing beads from the flex wire. Once you're happy with the fringes and the length, finish it off by attaching the other half of the clasp to the open end of the wire, using a crimp bead.

Remember these? We called them wrap bracelets and they were all the rage in Sweden about 10-15 years ago. I liked making them with stone beads and vintage buttons, like this one.

A French beaded flower in red. It's a fun and versatile technique, but stringing the beads on the wire was boring so I've only done one or two other pieces in it.

Joining a new art challenge with an old photo of an old piece. Today's prompt is Fool's Gold, so here's a necklace with a lava rock and pyrite crystals. I made this in 2007 when I was just starting to make jewelry.

The lower part of a long bronze coloured chain necklace with a chunky pendant. The chain has pyrite crystals linked in at intervals of about 4.5 cm. The pendant is a large (about 6 cm) pear shaped black lava rock wrapped in the same kind of bronze chain. Below the lava rock is a pyrite crystal dangling from a couple of centimeters of chain.

Our plastic patio roof filters enough sunlight for a quick glance and a photo.

Dyed fish leather was a thing a number of years ago.

I made this cuff at a workshop and never wore it, because yes, it does have a faint odour of fish.

A cuff made of red fish leather. The cuff is held together by a green snap button, which forms the eye of a dragon’s head. The upper edge of the cuff is saw tooth jagged, like the ridge of a dragon’s back. A few strings of gold coloured beads have been sown on for highlight accents.

A framed cross stitch embroidery of the mask and rose from the Phantom of the Opera musical. I traced them from the LP album cover, arranging them slightly differently than in the original picture.

Why am I buying seeds?

(Snapdragons and Nemesia)
Two trays with tiny seedlings. In both trays there are a lot of seedlings to the left (the harvested seeds section). In one tray (snapdragons) there are also a few to the right (bought seeds), but the left side is much denser. In the other tray (nemesia) the right side is empty.

Yay, I just attracted my first weirdo! I don’t even know what they were on about, but they’re now blocked.

A totally unrelated pencil drawing we found while clearing out a relative’s house. It was framed and all.
A carefully drawn but badly proportioned portrait of a bearded fisherman. The positioning of the eyes, nose and ear are clearly off, but not in a way that makes it seem artistically intentional. It’s just really ugly. Furthermore, the position of his shoulder and upper arm makes the picture look like a selfie he has taken with his phone. The drawing wasn’t signed but is much older than smartphones and selfies.

I’m trying to listen to Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, but I think I’ll give up.

It just makes me think of Musk and his arrogance, and how people were (are?) cheering on his plans to let the world burn so that he can be dictator of Mars.

The store was out of organic chunky peanut butter, so I had to get smooth instead. It’s sooo runny. Eugh.

Maybe I should boycott pb&j sandwiches anyway, for being a US thing. What if the peanuts are from the US and half of them are nasty Republican peanuts. Eww.

One of my lampwork beads fits both yesterday's theme glass and today's theme fire. I didn't post anything yesterday, so I'm doing a combo today.

It's made of glass in fire, and the autumn leaves rather look like flames.

See those crooked stitches down to the left? My first ever cross-stitches. My grandmother taught me when I was little and we embroidered this apron “together” (I did that small section and she did the rest). She gave it to me years later.
