The Baader–Meinhof phenomenon is real. At some point I noticed #chatGPT uses the sentence structure “X isn’t just Y, it’s Z” when it wants to emphasize a thing & since then I keep seeing this sentence structure everywhere. Just watched a random YT vid & it was riddled with pic related

Fifteen years in IT, but I always wanted to be a #musicproducer
What can be accomplished in fifteen years?
A lot. But also, not enough.
Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

Kahneman won the Nobel in '02 for showing that we often don't make optimal or rational decisions. No surprise, then, that the prices of assets can rise far above their true, sustainable value. From tulips, the Roaring Twenties, the Housing Bubble, this has been happening for centuries #AI #bubble

Day 100 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #HenryMintzberg #StrategySafari focused on the effectiveness & practicality of different strategic approaches, so it examines strategy mostly from managerial, organizational & competitive perspectives.

Day 99 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #HenryMintzberg #StrategySafari reviews 10 distinct schools of strategic thought, recognizing that 1) each school has value & limitations, 2) different contexts require different strategic approaches.

Day 98 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #MartyCagan #Transformed similarly to #Inspired & #Empowered doesn't consider how to handle political, hierarchical, or coercive structures, or who defines product success, who is affected, who is excluded?

Day 97 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #MartyCagan #Transformed emphasizes transition from output to outcome oriented models, making structural change across leadership, teams, processes, while focusing on continuous discovery, validation, iteration.

Day 96 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #JasonFried #Rework mostly focused on internal teams, organizational efficiency & personal authenticity. No guidance on how to manage power structures, internal politics, systemic inequalities...

Day 95 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #JasonFried #Rework constraints like limited budget, fewer features, or tight deadline force companies to simplify & focus on essentials. Also, short, focused, asynchronous interactions over unnecessary meetings.

Day 94 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #SethGodin #ThisIsMarketing emphasizes understanding customers & empathizing with them, acknowledging issues like market manipulation & ethical considerations, but offers no systematic tools to address them.

Day 93 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #SethGodin #ThisIsMarketing the principle "not mass" (meaning targeted, meaningful audience), "not spam" (permission-based engagement), "not shameful" (no manipulative tactics) will remain etched in my neocortex.

Day 92 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #StevenKotler #StealingFire a lot of nice anecdotes, but they lost me at "...the human brain remains the most complex machine on the planet". That's not how the mind works.

Day 91 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #StevenKotler #StealingFire flow & ecstasis emerge from systemic interactions under appropriate conditions without top-down planning or linear control, spontaneously improving individual & collective performance.

Day 90 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #MatthewSkeleton #TeamTopologies shows internal organizational design for effective software delivery, but provides limited insight on how external stakeholders (customers, regulators, communities) impact orgs.

#complexity
June 18, 2025 at 7:09 AM
Day 89 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #MatthewSkeleton #TeamTopologies recommends continuously adaptive organizational design & varied team structures, stream-aligned, enabling, complicated subsystem, platform... to address different contexts.

Day 88 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #MichaelUseem #TheEdge emphasizes leadership perspective without providing tools for leaders to identify stakeholders beyond organizational boundary, engage them in structured dialogue or manage conflicts.

#complexity
June 16, 2025 at 2:12 PM
Day 87 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #MichaelUseem #TheEdge effective leaders understand complex, dynamic contexts & adapt decision-making to a situation. To address unexpected market dynamics, leaders must critically evaluate their approach.

Day 86 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #BryceHoffman #RedTeaming doesn't provide structured methods for systematically analyzing who holds power or decision context & how power dynamics influence the red-teaming process or critiques.

#complexity
June 14, 2025 at 8:27 AM
Day 85 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #BryceHoffman #RedTeaming advocates challenging of assumptions & structured questioning using multiple methods such as Devil’s Advocate, Pre-Mortems, Alternative Analysis, Think-Write-Share...

Day 84 of looking at books through the lens of #CriticalSystemsThinking

💡 #JamesSurowiecki #TheWisdomOfCrowds although it warns against conformity & pressure toward groupthink, it doesn't provide methods or frameworks to analyze how they shape collective intelligence.

In 1968, the US submarine Scorpion disappeared on its way back to Newport News after a tour of duty in the North Atlantic. A naval officer John Craven assembled a team of mathematicians, submarine specialists & salvage men to help with the search. He didn't ask them to consult with each other.

💡 #JamesSurowiecki #TheWisdomOfCrowds cognitive diversity enhances collective decision-making & case studies from the book show that decentralized systems outperform centralized ones in complex scenarios.
