Incredible development by Tristan since he got to Vancouver. Wasn't even a full-time CB in LA and was given away for free in an Expansion Draft. Now Defender of the Year, USMNT int'l and MLS All-Star.
Major League Soccer today announced Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Tristan Blackmon as the 2025 MLS Defender of the Year.

Blackmon is the first Whitecaps defender to earn the honor in club history.

fwiw: at Austin, Seb had a fairly unique combination of defensive output and ball progression (+ exemplary work ethic, obvs), even if that didn't exactly add up to being a good player yet. There was definitely a reason to take a chance on him (for 50k GAM at least).
"I really looked around and thought, you know, I might be the worst player on the field right now.

"I'm so thankful that Vancouver took a chance on me, because there was no reason to."

Sebastian Berhalter is the latest subject of 'Breakaway,' and it's a good one:

Marc's posts on how teams can and should use the various MLS roster construction mechanisms are really good. This one on the U-22 Initiative in particular.
The supplemental roster was the focus of last month’s blog, with today’s topic being the U22 Initiative. Give it a read.
The U22 Tradeoff
How do U22 Initiative players perform in their first season? What about later years? And what factors shape those trajectories?

Because I am an attorney and a certified MLS sicko, I have run a comparison of the 2024 and 2025 MLS roster rules.

Below is a thread to highlight a few of the changes🧵

Moe is very good and would be an asset to many organisations. I've worked with him before and he's consistently produced high-quality work.
I just want to put it out there that I am still looking/available for any paid remote recruitment work within football (club or consultancy). I've done public analysis for nearly a decade, and have a bit of experience working within the game as well during the early parts of Covid (2020-21)
