Rois & Reines (& Jeanne d’Arc).

Really interesting to see the mix of LC and English, and how English seems to be used for humorous effects in the song. Also, shout out to Patoutville and Jeanerette. (English translation below)

Bonjour DC! Our team is at the Library of Congress doing research for our project on Louisiana music. Check out this blues song, ‘Un té pas gain de l’air’, recorded in 1934 by John Lomax and sung by Edier Segura in Louisiana Creole (Kouri-vini).

We have a lot to give thanks for here at Nous, including to the amazingly talented Chasah & Charliese West, our 2023 Le Lab laureates. We co-produced Héritage, in English & Louisiana Creole, last year, and it was recently featured at the Festival International du Film Panafricain de Cannes. Bravo !

In the early 1800s, the Café des Éxilés (Exiles’ cafe) in New Orleans brought together émigrés from France and the Caribbean who met for coffee and gossip. Happy to keep that tradition alive on 🦋 with fellow former #nolatwitter.
