The climate crisis doesn’t discriminate, but the systems addressing it often do. Bridging that gap will be an accurate measure of a successful & just transition in the years to come. I describe what the outcome of COP29 means for women in my latest for More to Her Story.

Bolivia: talks of “those committing genocide against the Palestinians” and mobilising all necessary funding for war, whilst not coughing up the funding to mitigate and adapt to a climate crisis created by them. #cop29

India: “this has been an unfortunate incident following several such incidents [...]this has been state managed and we are extremely disappointed”
India wanted to make a statement prior to adopting the text, and was ignored. Cites lack of trust and collaboration.

Cuba points out that accounting for inflation, the NCQG will amount to less than earlier standards. It also points out wealthy nations’ mammoth military budgets… #cop29

COP29: Plenary hasn’t started, but the ministers are walking around super chill and if they hadn’t already reached an agreement, I don’t think they would be..

Latest (unofficial) draft cites $300bn…

It looks like developing nations are about to take a huge L.

Brazil: Where's the solidarity? Come on, multilateralism. COP30 still on for the Amazon, the COP of COPs. We want 1.5 aligned NDCs, but try to figure out means of implementation here at Baku. From weaving, learn trust.

Adorbs additional intervention to thank the people of Baku and COP volunteers.

COP29 Update: Talks drag on. Ministers say no deal is better than bad deal. NCQG draft offers poor nations under 1/4 of $1.3T needed annually— it includes loans, not just grants. Activists slept over to make anger known. More in my latest for Sierra:
