The Mercenary and The Mortician, both of which were loved by mm and dark romance readers... Rina Kent suffers from a really difficult fanbase because she's attempting to portray MM as well as MF dark romance and it seems like fans of the latter struggle with the former? I could go on...

Did I enjoy it? Yes. Would I recommend it? Yes, IF you like dark romance, mm, and are ok to read triggering content. Many people would not have the level of criticism I've seen if it if another author had written I think... there were similar noncon/dubcon scenes in That Sick Bargain as well as

I feel it does struggle a little in terms of pacing of the plot. There are a few "blink and you'll miss them" type hints then an avalanche in the final third. I also feel like whatever she wrote in this book would struggle to live up to the legacy of God of Fury...

Healing to read (the mind is intricate)... likewise many victims don't, so I get the unease of some readers. That said, the thing I feel like RK nailed with it is character, specifically that of Gareth. He's the most complex she's written in the books of hers I've read (LOG).

Severance is top tier... honestly.
