I’m now positive most of my fellow Americans don’t mind being told what to do - want it even - just as long as they are allowed to act on their worst impulses, be their most antisocial selves. No wonder so many of us hate the term socialism.

Also, here are some photos of me in the mid-70s.
I read Alison Townsend's essay "My Pink Lake and Other Digressions" on the train today. Townsend jumps intentionally from her dog’s recent death, to her given and chosen families, to the writing process itself and lots of other stuff. I loved it, and I thought: This is a totally ADHD essay.

I've stayed away from commenting on socials about Epstein stuff, mostly because 1) It's SO FUCKING GROSS, and 2) I don't see anything I can do about it. But I will say: Everything bad in this country is caused by people with too much wealth. It is possible to be too rich. Also, snap into a Slim Jim.

This morning I started rereading The Talisman, my favorite book from my childhood about the adventures of 13-year-old Jack Sawyer, which I originally read when I was 13 years old, to my 13-year-old daughter. Sometimes the eternal return can be a good thing.

The fact that we're not honoring Assata Shakur in her death with the same passion conservatives have been honoring Charlie Kirk pretty much sums up what's wrong with the Democratic party.

As I hear right wingers express a desire for vengeance in Charlie Kirk’s death, I think of Jordan Neely.

With every conversation I have and every new information I get this week, I keep coming back to Lee Thomas’s words from the day after the Charlie Kirk killing. Leave it to a master fiction writer to put it best.

So the suspect in the Charlie Kirk killing is <drum roll> a lone wolf white dude from a religious family. White conservatives losing their minds trying to blame POC, trans people, and immigrants, and of course it's someone who most resembles...Charlie Kirk.

When we say "law and order" we mean state power. Republicans fetishize the police and military, Democrats lionize the courts, but they're all part of the same racist class warfare against people who don't have enough money to fight them. And people who have enough money to fight them, ARE them.

Something I think about almost constantly right now is how weaponized the act of othering has become, and how quickly it’s become entrenched in our policing. In fact, it’s probably the most important and obvious way we as a country have descended into fascism.
