Ooh!! The First Sister is a great queer space opera! The Stars Too Fondly is a sapphic space romance and is just delightful. The Darkness Outside Us is the first a queer YA sci-fi series!

Finished this morning and cried off my makeup. It’s timely. It’s political. It’s heartfelt and heartbreaking. Both a love letter to oldest sisters and Black women and a vicious rejection of the expectations the world puts on them to save us over themselves.

And this is a debut!!! #booksky

Owning a small business is comprised of highs and lows

High: being featured in a national magazine
Low: realizing a bill that you thought was on auto pay was indeed not and getting surprised with a large payment at 9am

I haven’t read a book that has gripped me so completely in what feels like years. Holy shit.

I’m many things in my life, but a bookseller/indie bookstore owner is my favorite. One look at a room full of folks bonding over our shared love of stories should be all you need to understand that reading is powerful. And that power is distinctly political.

Meanwhile, 43% of the way through this and I’ve been told something big is about to happen 👀

Oop, my mom is reading a popular romantasy and I’m cackling at this surprise text I got from her at 4 in the afternoon

Finished our Mostly Fantasy Book Club pick, Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger, this morning. Absolutely delightful middle grade/YA book full of magic and, most importantly, some very good dogs.

I also loved the asexual representation in this one, which is actually confirmed instead of just implied.
