Millennial dog mom mildly obsessed with books, wine, and food 💸

... and the idea of traveling and writing more — though the actual doing of either is a work in progress ✒️

Me too!!

I still haven't read the Poppy War trilogy yet, so that might be my stop gap on the way there 😅

"it probably just drives me to ao3 to find some incredible fics to fill the void and keep me obsessed with it"

Between AO3, maybe a couple of spin offs, and/or interconnected standalones, absolutely.

This speaks to most versions of me.

All else equal? Speaks to the rest ✨️

"If the story is set, let's throw it all out there!"

💯

I especially feel this with duologies lately 😅

The Women was my favorite by Kristin Hannah so far!

If you haven't read The Nightingale, that was a somewhat similar vibe (except the setting is WWII France) from her.

If you have and you liked it, Anthony Doerr's All The Light We Cannot See is also one I'd recommend.

"Don't know if my standards are low or if I'm good at picking what I read"

Felt this. Between my friends and me, I'd like to think it's mostly the latter now 😅

It also helps that they now know to level set with me whether or not they think a rec has been over, appropriately, or under-hyped.

The amount of times I have done this is mortifying.

The kicker? Walking around the entire house with the book/phone in hand, increasingly frustrated as you search for the phone.

One of mine (Obi) loves to sunbathe too — he periodically rotates sides and everything while his sister (Elli) and I are lounging and reading in the shade 🌞

In some ways, it felt like a shorter, less academic, and more magical version of Babel.

Pieces of this resonated today... "Should" follows me from work to reading to every other bit of my personal life, and I have a ways to go in the effort to address it 😶

Bought: "James" by Percival Everett — I'm hoping to actually read it within the next couple of weeks on the off chance I can make my team's next book club meeting.

Borrowed: "This is How You Lose the Time War" by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone.

👀 I'd love to know what you think/thought of James — I picked that up the other day!

I hope you feel better soon!!

I just (finally) finished The House in the Cerulean Sea — it's a cute, cozy read.
