... I am sure this list of conditions is going to get longer the more I think about it, but I'd be frolicking around in fantasy land *if*:

💕 I could bring my loved ones,
🪄there's magic that benefits us, and
🥂 we could thrive in the world in question.

One longer volume all the way 🍾

While I don't mind a trilogy of shorter books, I feel like the experience tends to be more choppy than immersive lately, with a few exceptions.

I'm beginning to mind duologies — many of these could have just been one better paced book 💸

Spring cleaning is happening on a few different levels, but the bookish one is having a promising start!!

(Most of the series I own are in another room's bookshelves 😅)

I started off strong with Nocticadia — new obsession unlocked ☠️

Not bad for a month where I spent the latter half of it moving — I will eventually finish The Plated Prisoner series, Careless People and reviews for the lot.

Elli is the pup who loves lounging, soft blankets, and scritches.

Obi is the pup who wants to play and socialize more than anyone else in this house.

🐾 I have two very different #dogs, but sometimes I just see post- and pre-pandemic versions of me 😅

Better than last February! I managed 4 books, all authors new to me.

I'd absolutely recommend M. L. Wang's Blood Over Bright Haven.

The Cerulean Chronicles are cutesy, and the first one in particular is like cuddling with your fur baby 💕

Now? Late 20s/early 30s.

⏳️

Around 2020, I started relating more to the parents than the typical teen protagonists of many YA novels/series.

That was a mildly terrifying realization that forced me to reevaluate my preferences.

An epistolary novella for folks who like spies who fall in love through time (travel), but feel the need to be overly poetic about it.

I tend to read books in the evenings, so it's usually some form of wine for me 🥂

But if I'm reading earlier* in the day, usually coffee or chai, unless it's a strong cocktail.
*usually news, not books, so I prefer an upper or a coping mechanism.

Too late for #tonguesouttuesday and perhaps a little too early for #toothoutthursday, but I can't get over how conked out Obi is on his sofa bed — lips, tongue, and teeth all make an appearance, depending on the angle 🤣

Audiobooks are like podcasts and virtual SKOs for me: unless I'm taking notes, everything being said goes in one ear and out the other.

The only thing my brain actually retains is a random assortment of thoughts on the guests and narrators 😅

I'm averaging about one book a week at the moment—all #fiction, all part of a series, and all paired well with #Tempranillos and #Malbecs in the evenings 🥂

Shortest: One Dark Window
*Good, but overhyped

Longest: The Fifth Season
*Gripping, unfortunately underhyped

#History feels like a good genre to brush up on right about now. (So we'll run with that for my nonfiction pick.)

It's been a minute since I've read a good #mystery or #thriller, so hoping to add a few more of those into my TBR this year.

Open to #bookrecs, p&ty 💕

One at a time, for the most part—more than that and I'm likely to lose the plot.

Exception #1: Tandem reads within the same universe (e.g. #TOG) where I'm basically just adding POVs to the experience.

Exception #2: I can add in a nonfiction book if I'm taking notes.

I take "trending" titles with a grain of salt—or occasionally the shaker.

#BookTok and #Bookstagram have been great for adding titles to *review* for my TBR, but folks sometimes overhype or have tastes that don't quite align with mine.

C'est la vie 🤷🏽‍♀️

If I've started a completed series, I go on to finish it.

(A mildly toxic habit: I haven't DNF'd a physical book or series in my house to date 😅)

A book on loan from a friend, standalone, memoir, or nonfiction is my palate cleansers after that 💕

#BookishQOTD 📖🦋 #Booksky 💙📚

My choice in books tends to be eclectic and so is the amount I read in any given month, so... I don't know that I'd do particularly well in a reading group/book club.

Reading a friend's book rec and chatting with them about it afterwards has been my default to date.

I tend to prefer variations of third person.

First person requires me to understand the characters a little more. (Unreliable narrators, anyone?)

I used to despise second person, but N. K. Jemisen has forced me to give it the benefit of the doubt.

It depends 🤷🏽‍♀️

Most of my fantasy reads exceed 500 pages.

A healthy chunk of fantasy, memoirs, and non-fiction fall in the 300-499 range.

But there's the occasional novella, collection of essays, etc. under 300 pages.

I'm for *all* the well-written and edited pages!

If they add to canon and are at least well-written breadcrumbs sprinkled about before actual books in the series, love them 💕

Think New Spring, The Hobbit, or The Assassin's Blade.

I'd say the same for spin-offs as well.
