I love a deceptively easy prose that accompanies a great story. And I still can't believe I'm both in a relationship with, and editing for someone who does that.
I am very proud of the Fermi books. And very proud of Chris. And tbh, my first creative editing project being these stories.

These stories are written by someone very good at what he does. And it shows! It shows so much in these stories! I am someone who's been boring people at parties my whole adult life about how I prefer authors you feel like you could call up and talk with them afterwards.

These stories are the work of someone who has been writing his whole life, who does it for work and for fun and because the ideas need to go somewhere.
Someone who wrote before, during and after covid, homeschooling, pregnancy, house moves, grief, joy, admin and tax self assessments.

Our life outside of Fermi can be chaotic and yet Chris creates these tight, funny, punchy pockets of story in every novella, and does it at the dining table while a child is making seagull noises.

These are stories I edited between school meetings, EHCP applications, no-childcare-summer-holidays and my usual work. And reading them was something I looked forward to even as deadlines approached which is more impressive than you know.

So if you are already onboard the Fermi or a new crewmate thumbing a ride across the galaxy then now is an excellent time to read this particular collection of campfire stories, and the collection of novellas it is part of!
