Tom Homan, who was later named President Trump's border czar, was recorded in September 2024 accepting a bag with $50,000 in cash in an undercover F.B.I. investigation, according to people familiar with the case, which was later shut down by Trump administration officials. The cash payment, which was made inside a bag from the food chain Cava, grew out of a long-running counterintelligence investigation that had not been targeting Mr. Homan, according to the people, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe the case.

This morning, they said "no interest." That's disappointing. If he wants to lead this city, he should be open to hearing from investors. I'm not partisan. I care about policy. And I had real advice on housing, real estate, tech, and economic growth.

The Council’s budget doesn’t roll back I-82 as much as I’d like, but I’ll take it—half a loaf (served by a restaurant worker whose boss gets to pay them less) is better than none!
A summary of a subtitle in the DC Council’s FY 26 budget that would repeal I-82 and set the tipped minimum wage to $8 per hour. Subtitle F. Tipped Minimum Wage Amendment Act of 2025. This subtitle amends the Minimum Wage Act Revision Act of 1992 (D.C. Law 9-248; D.C. Official Code § 32-1001 et seq.) to set the tipped minimum wage at $8.00 an hour and to require an employer to cover the difference between a tipped minimum wage employees' earnings (inclusive of tips) and $20 an hour if the employees' earnings are less than $20 an hour. The subtitle also indexes the tipped minimum wage to inflation. The subtitle also amends D.C. Official Code § 47-2908 to cap restaurant service fees at 10%.

The District is faced with a historic choice: we can give 120 acres of prime real estate, tax free, to billionaire developers to build a stadium & other stuff for them to monetize, or we can do nothing. Those are the only options and it is a waste of time to consider anything else.
And here's what I know: this partnership with the Commanders is the fastest and surest route to activating the RFK campus. We have a partner who is willing to put in at least $2.7 billion - the single largest private investment in DC history - to ensure that five years from now, the campus is delivering for DC. Because, no matter what, 2030 is coming. In 2030, we could have the grand opening of a brand-new stadium and entertainment district at RFK, which will kickstart the development of housing, recreation, and jobs. Or, in 2030, we could still be mired in a planning process and debating what to do there.
