That saying out loud part is really annoying. I have heard and seen that in couples, best friends, parents-children...etc.
It's a patronizing kind of love. There is that part of "I want the best for those I love" but also "I know what is best. What I choose is the best and you should too."

Read it in high school around the time I also read Great Expectations, then followed it with Sophie's Choice the summer before college, because of the first person POV, unreliable narrator blah blah blah. All I remembered was that I got super depressed by these books.

There were many of them and I only got 1 good shot! One was sitting pretty on a branch in front of a flaming red maple tree. It'd be perfect if I had gotten it!
They are still easier than that golden-crowned kinglet I kept missing today. :(

There were many of them and I only got 1 good shot! One was sitting pretty on a branch in front of a flaming red maple tree. It'd be perfect if I had gotten it!
