My better half just asked me what a woodpecker looked like, because he saw a very small, pale greyish blue bird climbing our tree.

Obviously it is a white-breasted nuthatch. I think he needs to be educated.

Should NOT go birding today when writing deadlines are looming...

Going birding now. Ciao.

Most of us think Diá de Los Muertos lasts for 2 days (November 1-2) but for some, the remembrance starts as early October 27.

Here is a Costa's hummingbird on Halloween. A lifer for me.

This killdeer has the potential to be a ballerina!
Look at those little feet en pointe!

A short video of two killdeer shorebirds. There were at least 50 of them but it's very windy to take a video without a tripod :-/

(Hear that wind? It's very loud)

Look, I found a woolly bear caterpillar!
Doesn't it look a little like my favorite red panda? :D

When it's grown it'll turn into an Isabella tiger moth.

This red-tailed hawk was keenly watching some wood ducks. It tried to go and grab them and kept failing (Thank goodness!) :-/

Make it a minute or two if you put this on repeat ❤️

@banditelli.org has a cool feed about birds and labor rights. Go chase birds and organize (or unionize!)
I couldn't capture a ton of sanderling footage this evening, but I got enough I hope it brings a smile to your face for 3-8 seconds ❤️😊 🪶

The raptor refuge people had an event today and this owl was looking straight up because a hawk was hovering right above it.

I have never seen an owl look up like this before.

I remember what I was doing when the Challenger exploded, when 9/11 happened, and when I heard the results of the 2008 election, followed by the 2016 election.

I think we used to tell students that's called flashbulb memory. Is that term still legit?
I'll never forget, November, 2016, when his reign of terror began. A couple of days after the election I was in therapy and I said "I know it's not your job to offer political commentary, but I gotta tell you, I'm scared." Therapist paused and said very quietly "something foul has been unleashed."
