At the Palestine demonstration with the true Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn. Took a terrible photo.

If you're in Scotland, come to the national demonstration for Palestine and Lebanon today at 1pm, Edinburgh. Jeremy Corbyn will be one of the speakers. 🇵🇸

Not exactly scholarly, but someone made a really cool visual illustrating the narrator's use of the first-person "I" in Moby-Dick. It's fascinating to see how Ishmael's "self" seems to disappear slowly, and then almost entirely by the end. I think distant reading can be super insightful.

I've very kindly been added to a psychoanalysis-themed starter pack, and I've been waiting to share this photo of me hanging out with Sigmund.

This is maybe a bit off the tracks for my research but I just started reading 'The Indivisible Remainder' by Žižek.

His work on Schelling is not discussed very often (neither is Schelling himself, I suppose) so I'm excited to see where this goes.

The exhibition was Oscar Murillo's "The Flooded Garden". It consisted of tons of giant canvases where you could just pick up a brush and paint whatever you wanted. The size itself was impressive.

Last month, Kitty and I queued behind forty tiny toddlers and their distressed parents for about twenty minutes so that we could paint a cool whale at the Tate Modern.

The psychoanalyst, crossing the border between normality and abnormality, is a smuggler of language. Smuggling dangerous goods, accompanying people from one border to the next, that's his job. Between two languages, he impregnates himself with madness, writing, and science.

'But all these [fingers] are permanently lodged in their fleshy covering [...] "However recklessly the whale may sometimes serve us", said humourous Stubb one day, "he can never be truly said to handle us without mittens".'

— Herman Melville, Moby-Dick.

Dissertation reading.

Barbara Cassin and Alain Badiou discuss Lacan's "L'Etourdit" and his axiom: there's no such thing as a sexual relationship.

Good intro by Kenneth Reinhard, too.

Reading Andrea Long Chu in public and hoping people won't mistake me for a TERF reading a sex anatomy manifesto or something.

So far, pretty impressed by how easily and succinctly she can write on Lacanian sexuation for the average person - Freud meets SCUM manifesto is a very cool reading.

Read this for my dissertation on the structure of world literature.

Distant Reading by Franco Moretti.

An offensively low quality image for the cover of a book I chanced upon in a secondhand bookshop. It's like I'm waiting for the book to load.

But 'Conversations with Žižek' by Slavoj Žižek and Glyn Daly has been insightful so far. Not sure how popular this book is.

It's short, but finally read "Romeo and Juliet in Palestine" by Tom Sperlinger. It's a very unique insight into the occupied territories, and the daily life of its students. It's curious to see them equally anxious about the occupation as they are about their exam mark for English Lit.

Everything in life is about sex, except for sex. This is straightforward and makes things very simple. There is sex and and then there's sex, which isn't sex. This will cause no further confusion.
