Isn't it odd how not being on a platform where you are constantly shown things designed to appeal to the worst parts of yourself makes you feel immediately a tiny bit better.

What I Lick Before Your Face

You may take my balls
But I will lick what remains
And then, dear, your face

It would be such a shame if this, in fact, led more people to know about the book. Stupid droopy noodle of a man.

It feels like there’s something important about the gap between how it feels to use the thumbs up reaction on a whatsapp comment and how it feels to receive it.

The warning about "decivilization" didn't come after any one of a number of school shootings. It didn't come after January 6. It was after a health insurance company CEO's shooting wasn't received with national mourning:

Decivilization May Already Be Under Way
The brazen murder of a CEO in Midtown Manhattan—and the cheering reaction to his execution—amounts to a blinking-and-blaring warning signal for a society that has become already too inured to bloodshe...

Is doom scrolling really rotting our brains? The evidence is getting harder to ignore

Many have asked for my take on this. So, is it another example of "I have concluded that my gut feelings are correct and I'm cherry picking 'evidence' to support it"?

Yes, yes it is

‘Brain rot’ is the Oxford word of the year – a fitting choice, given the startling impact the internet is having on our grey matter, says journalist Siân Boyle

All you’d have to do was add “Lynne” at the end and it would be perfect Alan.
This Kemi Badenoch quote is such a rich text. Steak at your desk? Sandwiches for breakfast? No moist bread?

What must the world look like to AI bros?
Aside from all the other ludicrously awful stuff going on here...

What clown sees the modern publishing industry and concludes that the main problem is "Too FEW books being published"???

This is like looking at the Titanic and proposing a hip new way to pump more seawater on board
I’m horrified by Spines but I very much enjoyed the way Matilda has written this piece about their so-called disruption of the publishing industry with a tech-washed pay-to-publish model, especially the lack of sales data 👀

One thing I look for in a social network is not to have the CEO shove his reactionary political views in my face every time I open the app. So I’m happy here.

Why are MAGA people still so angry at everyone online? They won. They’re getting the President they want back. The wokes have been defeated. Why are they still out there screaming at strangers to debate them? It’s gotta be tiring to be completely incapable of ever feeling good.

The problem isn’t that Twitter is toxic. It’s that it *doesn’t work* anymore. I’m keeping an account for Arabic content that’s still not migrated but other than that anyone I try to ‘fight’ will not see my posts as they will be buried under blue ticks and spon con.

I really don’t understand this whole ‘stay on Twitter and fight’ thing. You’re jousting with bots and reply guys and wading through ads it’s not Waterloo.
