People like me for a while and then they drop me and, like, never speak to me again? Haha. You know, like people I have crushes on, or—well, just friends, too. It’s weird.” Woojin looked stricken and furious, so handsome in his outrage that it made Chan’s stomach twist. “That’s really fucked up.” “I mean. I’m sure they had their reasons.” Chan swallowed, gave a weak smile. “Things happen. For me it’s the uncertainty, like, what did I do?” “Hey, you didn’t do anything wrong. They’re fucking assholes.” Maybe, Chan thought, but the common denominator was always him, wasn’t it? The person not worth keeping was him, every time. “Nah, I mean they probably—" “No,” said Woojin firmly. “I hate them.” There was a quiet bloom of warmth in Chan’s chest, a petal-like unfolding of pain clutched tight for too long—opening now in the light of being loved. He’d never felt anything quite like it. And he realized in that moment he could trust Woojin with this cold, scared piece of him, that it was okay to place the fear in Woojin’s hands and know, for once, it wouldn’t be used to hurt him. For two years, he was able to believe it.
