Doing #genealogy to calm down 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
The greatest economy we've ever had!

At least since... um... well, this cover is from October 2024, so...

Are we still the envy of the world?

Brach's Royals! I loved those. I can't believe I'd totally forgotten about them until just now.

I think I know a relative of hers! 😄 This is Ash.

So this is weird... o_O

Well, you've made me learn something today. Thank you!

Turns out, it's not within 100 miles of the actual border, it's within 100 miles of an "external boundary", which includes coasts of any kind. So even though Lake Michigan is entirely within the US, the 100 miles starts at its edge.

#Caturday is nice 😊

YES. I saved that one too!

I mean, if he had just *refrained* from causing millions of preventable deaths, he would have been more liked.

Heck, if he had even just *not celebrated* causing millions of preventable deaths while dancing around with a chainsaw.

But, no. Had to be this guy.

Ok, so the photo IS fake. That's a relief!

Our sweet boy, Ash.

He had fluid drained from his chest cavity this week to keep him from suffocating.

Three days in hospital + $8,000 worth of tests and procedures = cause unknown.

Recurrence likely. 😞

My kitty's feet look like they were created by AI that didn't know where toes should go or how many there should be.

But no, those are her actual feet.

(And her nose, in the top left corner.)

Yep. Here's The Economist cover from October 2024, a couple weeks before the election.

While over at The Economist in October 2024....

Another picture—one of my favorites—from the box of old family photos. Nothing written on the back, no water mark or stamp from the photographer. Possibly taken in Diamondville or Kemmerer, WY. Wondering if any #genealogy folks might be able to help me date it... 1910ish? Earlier? Later?

I think I know one of her relatives...

It amazes me how all the tuxedo cats on the internet look EXACTLY like our tuxedo cats. If our white-faced tuxedo didn't have a little extra black spot by her nose, I would spend all my time saying to people "Why is my cat on your porch??"

Clipped this item from a 1907 newspaper and labeled it "Um_what?"

Trying to decide if I want to find out what the context is...

Hey, @catsofyore.bsky.social!

This is Sam. He belonged to my grandmother in the 1960s, before I was born, but I've heard about him my whole life. He was a Manx who apparently had more personality than any other cat who's ever lived.

He LOVED to be vacuumed. I wish my cats wanted to be vacuumed.

I tried making Scottish tablet today.

Never having seen or tasted the real thing before, I'm not sure how close I got. Turns out it's hard to judge texture from descriptions you read on the internet.

I am quite happy to eat it, regardless.

On July 5, 1923, a coal car broke loose at the tipple and ran out of control down the slope, hitting John Bosich and killing him. "Every bone in his body being broken by the impact." He was 25 years old.
