BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM. A lovely 7 mile circuit in The Cheviots with @wendypilmer.bsky.social We didn’t see another soul with just birdsong and occasional artillery fire from the neighbouring Otterburn Ranges for company. What might two old BBC hands have chatted about on this autumnal day?

Fun fact: Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart had his obituary in the cricketers almanac, Wisden. He wasn’t a Stewart at all #totp

That’s me at the BBC done. 38 years + 2 days. Local Radio reporter, producer, network correspondent, assistant editor, editor, project manager. Shipyard and pit closures, riots, 5live’s launch, 9/11, war..Orwell started it and will always be alongside me. The BBC isn’t perfect but you’d miss it.

A remarkable end to cricket’s County Championship season. At Southampton yesterday afternoon Hampshire looked doomed but Durham let them off the hook. I’ve been to see colleagues at Lord’s, Hove & Canterbury lately too. A top bunch. Winter well all. #bbccricket

Is it #totp here? I’ve just been to see loads of Ready Steady Go at the BFI which beats it all hands down; and I sat a few rows away from an RSG dancer who was on with Otis Redding…

28 years since the pager message ‘morning Doug, Di dead, need you doorstep Blair. Regards, Curran J’. Pic credit Raoul Dixon who cropped me out of r/h side of frame, leaving the legendary Richard Wells in. Strange days indeed

Fantastic find at Sister Ray on a flying visit to Soho this week. The evolution of George Clinton’s music is a 20th century wonder to behold.

R.I.P. Terence Stamp. His flatmate might have got more famous but he had way more style. His autobiography contains great detail about the importance of a shirt’s collar roll. And his brother managed The Who. I mean…Sha la la…

A working day at Cheltenham College for Glos vs Lancs, one of the great scenes of English cricket. Your BBC commentary team of Ed Seabourne and Scott Read overlook the scene. Book stall was good too.

A long train journey gives a chance to finish this series about the 1945 Attlee government. It’s terrific radio, if we can still call it that. Authoritative, and so well produced presenting the academics in such an accessible way

I spent Friday and Saturday at the test match. Today I listened to the remarkable final day on holiday and watched clips in the Italian sunshine. Twenty years ago I would have waited days for a newspaper to emerge. Technology ain’t all bad #cricket #engvsindia
