Abigail (2024)

2/5 ★

The plot and the execution kind of sucked, but Alisha Weir’s performance didn’t!!! #alishaweiristhebest

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

4/5 ★

Less horror and more mystery which sort of disappointed me, I did enjoy the plot and the interesting “relationship” between Hannibal and Clarice. It added a unique depth. Though lower in the horror vibe, I did really enjoy this!

Moloch (2022)

3/5 ★

This Dutch folk horror rec I got from @folknhell.bsky.social was another turn on the “bog bodies” frenzy. Though the main plot felt a little boring, I love the different interpretation they chose; it was different than other bog body stories!

The Substance (2024)

4.5/5 ★

Wow this was GNARLY. I made the mistake of watching this during dinner. A great commentary on modern fame society and beauty standards, and the liminal space setting paired with the creepy sounds made this so unique.

IT: Welcome to Derry (2025)

4/5★

Perhaps a little longer than it needed to be, the horror and the gore were scary and well done, and it tied in very well with the main IT story! The last episode had me wondering if we are going to get an IT rebirth… would be cool!

“The Empusium” by Olga Tokarczuk

3.5★

Originally written in Polish, this book follows the life of a young person at a medical hotel with something eerily wrong living underneath. I got a little confused sometimes and it was quite wordy but still an awesome eerie folk horror.

Happy Halloween!! 🎃🦇

Sorry for the lack of new reviews; I’ve been really struggling lately with my health and general life-happenings, and I’m not quite out of the woods yet :(
But as we speak I’m finishing up with a new folk horror book, so get ready!

More to come soon…

Weapons (2025)
5/5 ★

This was the first time in a long time that a horror movie actually freaked me out. This was original and unique, eerie, gross, and FREAKY. I think I have trauma from this film tbh, but that’s good.

Wow- just wow. Estonian folk-horror might be my new favourite thing…

In terms of scare factor it wasn’t very scary, but it was eerie, beautiful, and authentic in a way many modern horror films aren’t.

Guys please what is the plot of AHS season2? I’m on episode 4 and I feel like by this point in season 1 we had a pretty good idea of the overall plot- but at this point in s2 I’m just confused 😭

“Blood on her Tongue” by Johanna Van Veen

★3/5

It started as a “Fall of the House of Usher” type horror vibe and ended as a sisterly love story. The writing was okay and the gore part omg was so nasty it was so good, but it ended less than horror and more “the power of sisters!!”.

Shaman (2025) ★ ★ ★/5

Though stunning visually, idk why we are still making white saviour Christian missionary films on 2025.
Nothing in this movie was even based on any sort of pre columbian Indigenous tradition anyways? Like the acting was good but where was the plot? The point?
