Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima. Literally: Master Takahashi's Adventure Island, known in the west just as Adventure Island. Also one of my ramen-chef friend's favourites. Takahashi was employed by #hudsonsoft when they saw his skills, pressing the fire button 17 times per second!

Bomber King (Robo warrior in the west). Published by #hudsonsoft for the #famicom in 1987, not developed in-house, but by Aicom. Gameplay resembles that of Bomberman a bit (1983), but this game has more story.

The turbo switches are still exactly the same as on the original joypad, no innovation there, I guess if it works and works well, don't change it. The only IC inside is a #zuiki A31419, which is a USB controller. Production date is 2019, the #pcengine mini was released in 2020, so seems normal.

Next up the USB joypad for the #pcengine mini, also made by #hori of course. Last one, I promise. Nothing fancy, just one IC. It is so similar to the original controller, maybe they even used the same mold. No through hole caps sticking out of the pcb though :) #miniconsole

Inside we find two MA8601 usb controllers like in the #pcengine mini itself. Why 2? Each controller can handle 4 ports and like the real multitap it has 5 ports. And you want to play Bomberman with 5 people. But... they could have cheaper out because the mini already has 2 ports unlike the OG PCE.

Let's continue with the Multi Tap that #hori made for the #pcengine mini. Unlike the controllers, the multitap is not the same size as the original, it's a bit smaller. What will we find inside? #miniconsole

That's about it for the #pcengine mini. Made by #hori for #konami (digital entertainment) who bought #hudsonsoft in 2012. Plenty of space inside the case, theoretically you could stuff the microUSB OTG splitter cable with an USB stick inside, but should we risk bricking the mini with bad power?

Brought the #pcengine mini with me to work where they still have Win10 PCs with USB-A ports. Worked! Mini console is in recovery mode now.

I got another Pioneer #pcengine based GPS-G5, this time with 2 software cards. Hopefully we can get this one to work. And... I saw a #megadrive hoodie I couldn't not buy. Now to wait for family to go to HK so they can bring some of this back for me if they have any space left in their suitcases.

Just got word from family in HK. My #fromjapan package arrived. And yes, I finally gotten my hands on a #pcengine AMP-30 amplifier. JUNK though. I also got a #konami Picno so I can test the Picno card I got and I also got a Bee card adapter for shmuppy.

Upside. Saw I "only" paid ¥11000 for this 2 years ago, while it is now going for ¥22000.

Spent 1.5hrs mucking around trying to get the #pcengine mini into FEL mode and stay connected so it can be hacked, to no avail. Probably a combination of connecting to a USB-C port, passthrough to a Windows VM that is running Win11. But even in Linux it doesn't stay connected. #hacking #miniconsole

Not all is well. Nintendo updated the kernel and changed more stuff, so a lot of homebrew is no longer working in 21.0.0, including DBI. After trying to get it working for 20 minutes, I gave up and installed Awoo Installer and managed to put Animal Crossing on it. Mission accomplished.
All working now. Would not boot into anything, because I updated the Switch before modding and it is on 21.0.0 now. Lucky me a new HATS package was released today for 21.0.0. Installed, created emuMMC with Hekate and now boots into emuMMC.

Tested it and working. Takes some time before it's glitched, but it works. So put it all back together again and voila! Friend explained that picofly will adjust it's timing and after a few times glitching it will become faster.

It took me an hour to get it back on. Very frustrating.... In the end I saw the video below. Bent the metal parts on the side and then it went on in 5 minutes of trying. Big thanks to @neotil1 on YouTube for that.

It took me an hour to get it back on. Very frustrating.... In the end I saw the video below. Bent the metal parts on the side and then it went on in 5 minutes of trying. Big thanks to @neotil1 on YouTube for that.

Soldered the ribbon cables. Used crap solder on the CPU cable as you can see. But then when I wanted to test the power button did nothing because the clip of the ribbon cable next to the battery connector came off...

Prepared (read: copied files from zip) SD card last night for my daughter's yellow Switch Lite. Will attempt to mod it tonight. Only modded a og Switch once before and ended up going to a friend for help (turned out soldering was ok, but ribbon cable connector pin got bent). #switch #picofly

Done deal! #hitexploded Bomber Man on #famicom. Beat all 50 levels, got the end screen and then it looped back to stage 1. End screen message says "See you again in Lode Runner", so Lode Runner came after and #bomberman was a cameo. Fired up Lode Runner to check. #hudsonsoft

Yes! Screen is back to normal. Changed cables. Didn't help, then I tilted the Twin so I could reach underneath and fiddle with the pallette switch and the screen came back!
