I gave a 5-min layperson-friendly talk on #workingmemory, which the improvisers then used as inspiration for a skit 🧠🎭

I've been thinking that cognitive research needs to better interface with journalists and the public - there's an appetite for our expertise but scientists still mostly work towards and rely on peer-reviewed articles. We can break the pipeline by reviewing preprints and signalling quality ourselves.
There are many issues with preprints, but one of the biggest is when they are seen as credible before being peer-reviewed.

A tale of two algorithms: Structured slots explain prefrontal sequence memory and are unified with hippocampal cognitive maps
The algorithm of the prefrontal working memory system on sequence memory tasks is not well understood, whereas it is well understood for the hippocampal episodic memory system. This work shows a mathematical duality between working and episodic sequence memory. This leads to a computational understanding of sequence working memory—as structured activity slots. This theory algorithmically explains recurrent neural network (RNN) and prefrontal representations during sequence memory tasks.

Yes! To exist is to constantly communicate with the environment. Input from environment to cognition via sensation & perception. Output to environment from cognition via action. So it makes sense that each one of these elements influence each other over development.
It turns out that many species-specific behaviours are shaped by these interactions between perceptual development between body morphology, motor abilities, the environment and the cognitive-perceptual system.

The debate between Nature-Nurture is a dead end, it's a false dichotomy. We can only understand organismic development in the context of an organism's typical development within its environment. Furthermore, cognitive development cannot be understood without physical and motor development.
