Yep. Several in-person community spaces here organize entirely through Discord, and I'm not excited to lose access to them.

Personally I love Zulip and Mattermost at least used to be a good choice but idk what they're up to these days

I'm not happy I was right. This sucks. I'm going to lose friends and communities. But that's only going to happen because for ten years nobody fucking listened to us when we said this was going to happen. Alternatives don't exist because *nobody fucking funded them*.

(Also just a note that an AppView is not the same thing as your app's view. Many apps can use the same AppView (and indeed do); one app can use any one of many AppViews. It's a bad naming convention. The normal technical name for this entity would be "aggregator" or "API server".)

... that we already have the tech for. It's called OpenID Connect, it was created in 2007, and when I was coming of age as a computer toucher it was on its way out as a mainstream thing *despite the underlying tech being extremely widespread* because big companies wanted to control your identity.
