This month's movie is A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

I think it helps remind him that our father figures were caring people. Mr. Rogers fed his fish on set in every episode because a kid wrote in worried about them. And despite being a religious man, he never preached, he just was kind.

After that wait, I sent Mary Poppins (1964)

Because "A Spoonful of Sugar helps the medicine go down", the dad learns how to work to turn things around with his kids. They start traditions of flying kites together. He sees that whimsy needs to exist as well as structure.

This one I let sit for 3 months.

I believed he needed time to figure all the clues out so far. Maybe it would land a little harder to ignore what I was saying through these. Maybe he'd realize I was Maria, and there was a chance I wasn't coming back.

Idk. Something told me to wait.

But then...

🎠 Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Carousel (1956)

Grief, generational pain, and the lie that sacrifice makes you noble.
A daughter wonders why her father hurt her.
A man asks if he’s worthy of love after all he’s done.
It’s uncomfortable, haunting—and necessary.

A soul’s last chance to make things right.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks

A found family forms in the ruins of war.
A Christian occultist fights Nazis with magic.
A child holds the answer the whole time, but no one listens.
It’s whimsical—but dark.
Just like memory.

Sometimes what you remember wasn’t the whole story.

A story of hope, betrayal, and survival—told through the eyes of an immigrant child chasing freedom in the Wild West.
Fievel learns that even “the good guys” can be monsters in disguise. But when you see through the illusion?

You remember who you are—and why you keep going.

Ever After:
She wasn’t unloved because she wasn’t worthy—she was unloved because her stepmother couldn’t see her.
This movie unpacks classism, maternal rejection, and abusive family systems—and ends with a line that echoes:

“I will show her the same kindness she showed me.”

For the month of April, I'm sending Behind the Waterfall. A movie of dealing with loss and finding something greater than yourself. And maybe a little fairy lore from our celtic ancestry.
